There are lots of factors to consider when choosing the gate automation system for your home.
We usually start by asking you what the purpose of your gates are. Common responses include, for privacy, security and to keep pets in. Quite often the customer has a good idea of the sort of things they want, other times we can guide them on what we think would work best at their property and offer alternative solutions they may not have considered.
Ultimately, provided it can be done, we will work with you to deliver what you want.
There are two main types of gate:
Swinging gates - These can come in a huge range of shapes, sizes, styles and materials. They can be a single gate leaf or a pair.
Sliding gates - Again, they can be made from a range of different materials and come in different shapes, styles and sizes. The two main types of sliding gate are fixed track, where the gate is driven along a track across the driveway and cantilever, where the gate is driven out but remains suspended whilst opening and closing.
Each type of gate as well as the materials used, the style and size has its own advantages and disadvantages. Often external factors will influence the decision. For example there could be limited space at your property for swinging gates, but enough room for a sliding gate and vice versa.
Automation equipment can be mains powered, transformed down to 24V or even solar powered. There are also options for battery back up to provide an uninterrupted power supply in the event of power failure.
The motors can be driven by hydraulic or electromechanical rams or arms mounted to the gates or they can be hidden in boxes below the ground for a more aesthetically pleasing look.
Many of the options provide an opening of around 90 degrees, but there are options available to allow the gate leafs to open to around 180 degrees.
Sliding gate motors are generally electromechanical motors that drive a track which is fixed along the length of the gate.
There are various methods used to stop the gates in the open and closed positions including limit switches, encoders and physical stops for the gates to open and close against.
We will discuss the options with you and recommend the best solution for your gates taking into account your budget, the design, style, weight and length of your proposed gates, the size of the opening required and the geometry available. We will also consider site specific conditions such as wind exposure, drainage and any site specific limitations.
Choosing the right style and material for your gates goes hand in hand with choosing the right method of automation.
Although we don't manufacture gates ourselves, we have a number of trusted suppliers who can make them from a range of different materials including softwood, hardwood, steel, a combination of steel frame and timber cladding, aluminium and composite materials. We can show you examples of the different options available. Alternatively, we are happy to work with gates that you source yourself.
We will work with you to find what's right for your budget, your type of automation, and the environment your gates will be in, so they fit in with your home and surroundings.
Once we've established the type of gate you require and the way it will be automated, we can look at the various different ways you can control your gates. Whether you would like remote control fobs, an intercom to your house or mobile phone or for your gates to open automatically on approach, the list of options is endless.
